AITA for Expecting My Manager to Work on His Wedding Day and Honeymoon? Hello everyone, I’m new here and could use some guidance. A close friend of mine is getting married this weekend. He’s faced many challenges but has found a wonderful partner, and we’re all overjoyed for him.
He’s a middle manager at his company, and he had his leave for this week and next weekend approved back in February, giving him six months’ notice. Yesterday, he was informed that, due to another manager being injured off duty, he’s now expected to work this weekend and at least half of his honeymoon.
He tried to reason with his boss, emphasizing that this was his wedding and honeymoon, the leave was approved long ago, and that people had traveled from across the country and significant money had been spent.
Despite his efforts, he was told he needed to set an example as a manager and was ominously threatened with possible termination if he didn’t comply.
He lives and works in North Carolina. Is this situation legal? Does anyone have experience with this or know who he can reach out to for help? He needs this job, so advice about quitting isn’t practical. Looking for immediate support. Thanks!

There are 3 characters in your story. One is injured. One is getting married. And one seems totally available to step in. Problem solved. Boss man can work.

Nope. He CANT negotiate. If he gives up his wedding they will have ZERO issue having him work during the birth of his child or during his parents funeral.
This is one of those moments in life where a person just has to take a hit. It’ll suck, but it’ll be less painful in the long run.
Edit to say don’t tell him to quit. They can fire him or let him go on his honeymoon.

Yes it’s legal. Your buddy will want to start looking for another job.
