AITA for Kicking Guests Out After a Pregnancy Announcement?

AITA for Kicking Guests Out After a Pregnancy Announcement? My (28M) wife “Anna” (28F) and I were expecting a baby and were thrilled. We had bought everything we needed and often discussed our future with the child.

However, on August 23, 2022, Anna woke me up in tears, revealing a large patch of blood near her crotch, staining the sheets. Accepting the loss was incredibly difficult, especially for Anna. She cried in bed for hours daily, refused to eat, and harshly criticized herself and her “useless body.”

While I tried to console her, I was grief-stricken and struggled to find the right words. After four months of therapy, we started feeling better; Anna was smiling more, though still a bit on edge.

On January 14th, Anna’s birthday, I wanted to make it special. I invited friends and family and cooked her favorite foods. Our families were aware of our situation and how deeply it affected Anna, especially my brother and sister-in-law (SIL), as we had stayed with them for a while.

During the meal, my brother and SIL stood up to announce that SIL was pregnant. After a brief silence, everyone congratulated them enthusiastically. I was stunned and saw my wife with an emotionless expression before she slowly smiled, congratulated them, and hugged them both.

For about 20 minutes, the conversation revolved around pregnancy, baby names, and toys. They could have announced this at their upcoming anniversary party in two weeks. Why choose Anna’s birthday?

I noticed my wife leave for our bedroom, and I found her crying. She told me she didn’t want to face everyone. Understanding, I went back to the table, where no one seemed to notice our absence. To avoid making a scene, I told everyone that Anna and I had plans for the evening and had to cut the party short.

SIL then accused me of reacting this way because of her announcement. I calmly explained that this was meant to be Anna’s birthday celebration, not a pregnancy announcement party.

After saying our goodbyes, my brother messaged me two hours later, calling me selfish and accusing us of being “careless,” implying that we caused the miscarriage despite our carefulness.
