Husband Shocked To See Wife True Face After Restaurant I’m no longer a server, but I worked as one throughout college at a well-known 24-hour chain restaurant famous for cheap breakfasts and not-so-great service. The place had a big yellow sign with red letters.
Despite its reputation, I took pride in my work and how I treated my customers. Honestly, if I could find a server job with good insurance and steady tips, I’d consider going back. I genuinely loved waiting tables and making people’s lives a bit more pleasant, at least while they were in my section. It sounds cheesy, but it’s true.
I had several regulars who always sat in my section, but other servers had their regulars too. One regular was a friendly, jovial man and his nasty, mean-spirited wife. She enjoyed being unpleasant and making others miserable. I had never waited on them before but had heard plenty about her. She was known for complaining endlessly, demanding to speak to the manager every time they came in, and berating the servers and cooks.
One day, I had to cover some tables in another server’s section because someone called in sick. When this couple came in, I was warned about the wife, but I wasn’t sure what to expect. As soon as they were seated, the husband left the booth and walked outside, leaving me alone with her. I put on my best smile and greeted her.
She refused to make eye contact and snarled, “You’d think that with as much money as we spend here, you people would know what we like to drink! Why do we have to keep going through this? I want ICED TEA, NO LEMON!!” She didn’t mention what the husband wanted, and I didn’t ask. Her immediate anger left me speechless, so I just turned on my heels and walked away.
I poured her iced tea – NO LEMON – and brought it back. Before I could even set it down, she snapped, “I already know what I want to eat, and we’re in a HURRY.” (Mind you, the husband was still outside). I took her order, still trying to be pleasant. Before I could walk away, she barked, “and the last time you people brought the food out, it was COLD!! I do NOT want cold food! And I want EXTRA CHEESE on my scrambled eggs!! and SALSA!!” Her voice dripped with anger with every word.
While ringing up her order, I thought of a thousand things I wanted to do in response, but then I had an idea. Instead of getting back at her, I was going to go out of my way to make her meal perfect and delicious and embarrass her at the same time.
I made sure everything was perfect: piping hot, lots of cheese on the eggs, and fresh salsa warmed to room temperature. By the time the meal was ready, the husband had returned and was happily chatting with another server. I put on my best sad face as I brought out the food.
As I set it down, I started to tear up a bit and gushed about how sorry I was for how badly she was treated the last time she was here. I told her I worked so hard to make sure the food was perfect this time and that I felt so bad about her previous experience that I would pay for her meal out of my tips. I hoped she would accept my apology on behalf of the whole restaurant.
Her husband, who had been cheerful seconds ago, now stared at her with a horrified look, his face turning bright red. She was mortified, her face equally red. She hung her head and mumbled, “Ummm… okay.” I asked if everything was to her satisfaction and if it wasn’t, I would fix it immediately. She pushed her food around and mumbled, “Ummm… yeah.” Her husband, now clenching his jaw, politely ordered his meal. As I walked away, I heard him hiss at her, “What did you say to her? What did you DO?”
She remained silent and sulking for the rest of the meal, and he was polite but not overly chatty. When they finished, she stormed out before he left the table, head hung low. He apologized profusely for her behavior and left a generous tip on top of paying the tab. To the best of my recollection, she never acted like a jerk to any of us ever again.

I pulled something similar on a gal back when I was a young waitress. Many years later when I started dating my BF, we went out to dinner. He’d told me how much of an ass his ExWife was to servers, even made one girl cry. I told him my story of some lady making me “cry” and offering to pay for the food out of my apron.
Same woman. Definately a “That was you?” moment.

I’m not a server but I love the stories here and I can’t stand people who treat other people in ways they probably wouldn’t want to be treated. This is one of the better stories…way to spread the karma.
