AITA for Going Home After Being Ghosted by a Job Interviewer Although I currently have a job, I decided to explore other opportunities. A week ago, I found a job posting on Indeed that seemed promising. It offered good pay and involved work I enjoy. The only drawback was the 35-minute drive out of town.
I had a productive conversation with the business owner through Indeed’s messaging system, and he seemed like a decent person. I explained that I work daily from 7 AM to 3:10 PM, so the commute to his shop would take some time. He asked if I could meet him at 3:30 PM.
Moreover, I informed him that it wouldn’t be possible since I finished work at 3:10 PM and couldn’t make the drive in less than 20 minutes. I assured him I would leave town at 3:10 and arrive around 3:40. I provided my phone number in case any changes arose, and we ended the conversation on a positive note.
I drove rather quickly and managed to arrive at 3:37, pleased with my timely arrival. When I got there, the business was closed. Assuming he might be nearby, I got out of my vehicle to look around.
I noticed two teenagers moving some materials and approached them, explaining that I had an appointment with their boss. One of them informed me that he had left a few minutes earlier but offered to call him back.
The teenager called his boss, explained who I was, then chuckled and said “okay” with a look of disbelief on his face before hanging up.
The teenager turned to me and said, “He says to go home.” I asked him to repeat himself. “He said go home,” he repeated, this time laughing uncomfortably.
Frustrated, I faced another 35-minute drive back home. As I left, I decided to express my irritation: I left some donut tire skid marks on his front lawn as I sped away.
About 30 minutes later, the business owner called me from a private number, which I let go to voicemail since I was driving. Listening to the voicemail later, I realized it further confirmed the negative Google reviews about him. This person wasn’t someone I wanted to do business with anyway.

I am still waiting for an interviewer to “call me back”. He said he’d call me back the next day…this was in August. If he wasn’t interested, then he should have just said so. He kept me from another possible job and I am mad at myself for believing the bastard.

My only question is, once he said to come at 3:10 and you said 3:45, did he agree and respond or did you assume it was ok?

I’m surprised you did that. I’d be worried he’d sue for damaging his property.

Just FYi damage to property. Including lawns is illegal and can get you in trouble.
Ghosting is a dick move, but not worth legal repercussions.
