AITA for Convincing My Teacher to Let Me Go Early by Doing Next to Nothing?

I’m currently enrolled in a trade school where classes run for three weeks each, from Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
The final two days of each session are reserved for exams, and teachers usually let us leave early once we’ve finished. I’m more than halfway through my program and have maintained perfect attendance.
Although I could leave early without permission, doing so would ruin my perfect attendance record. Yesterday, we had online and written finals, plus quiz retakes. I completed everything within an hour, handed in my papers, and asked Mr. D if I could leave. He instructed me to stay until 12:30. Instead of spending two hours aimlessly scrolling through Reddit, I decided to have a bit of fun.

The classroom has two long tables, with Mr. D’s desk at one end. I returned to my seat, turned my chair to face him, and sat there with my hands folded and a faint smile on my face.

I knew I could maintain this for the entire two hours if necessary. After about 10 minutes, Mr. D looked increasingly uneasy and finally asked if I had completed all my work.

When I confirmed that I had, he let me go early, clearly relieved. I went home and enjoyed a well-deserved nap.

Let’s swiftly assess a handful of the top comments: AITA for Convincing My Teacher to Let Me Go Early by Doing Next to Nothing?

My high school had dedicated days for final exams. Each exam day was a half day, and you only yad 2 exams. On this particular day, my 2nd exam of the day was Photography. Even though we had 2 hours for the exam it took me 30 minutes. As a senior with a car, I asked to go home and the teacher denied it. After sitting around for a bit, I decided it was imperative that I see my guidance counselor, which my teacher happily obliged. I hung out with my counselor for a bit, and asked her if I can leave which she happily obliged.

My High School had a 2 week exam period at the end of each semester. You get 8 courses a year and 4 courses per semester. Which was pretty much 2 weeks off as not every class had one. The rule was once your finished you leave the class room, by this time you are pretty much adults and they don’t really care where you go. They just don’t want you in the class disturbing other students.

Me high school had a mandatory finals day. It was the only day the school itself took attendance rather than the individual teachers. My class was technically self guided, so we all made a pact to finish early.

Our teacher brought his grill, we all pitched in for Buffalo burgers and snacks. This teacher also had a bunch of RC helicopters for another class. So we had a cookout and flew RC helicopters through the hallways and interrupted as many other classes as we could.

Consider a career as a judge, chairman or any other type whose job is to sit behind a fancy table and let people explain all kind of nonsense to you. It’s a rare skill to be able to sit and benevolently(?) smile at idiots for hours at end, without fidgeting or scratching yourself or anything the like.

Wait – that’s (also) the exam supervising teacher’s job…
