AITA for Receiving More Compensation After Not Complaining? Two years ago, after installing hardwood floors in our foyer and dining room, we purchased baseboards from Lowe’s. These came in “Pro Packs,” each containing six 12-foot boards and costing around $180. We bought two packs, anticipating that we’d need to return some extras.
After a few miscuts during our DIY project, we ended up with three surplus boards. I took them back to Lowe’s along with my receipt. The return desk employee was notably unkind.
I explained that the boards were from a single Pro Pack, so I should receive a refund for half the cost of one pack, as originally advised. She asked if I had a separate receipt for any of the boards, which I didn’t, since they were all from the same pack.
Her response was, “Don’t tell me how to do my job!” before she walked away to consult with a colleague. Moments later, she returned, requested my credit card, and processed a $360 refund. She also handed me a $180 Lowe’s gift card, citing it was for the board I couldn’t return with a receipt.
Although I believed I should have received only a $90 refund and no gift card, I chose not to correct her. I left with the gift card and later used it to buy 5 gallons of paint for the same rooms.

I once bought a kitchen range from Lowe’s with a pigtail for the kind of outlet I THOUGHT my old range was connected to. Turned out I was wrong and didn’t need the pigtail. The delivery guy said he’d take it back and return it for me. Next thing I know, I look at my credit card statement and they’ve refunded me for the whole range! I went to the store to try and straighten it out, but everyone just got confused and ended up telling me there was no mistake. shrug Ok, if you say so.

My buddy went to Home Depot last summer to buy a grill. The cashier had it rung up already and asked him for his “pro” number so he could get the points. She keyed it in, a receipt popped out and told him “ thanks, we will load it up out front”. I don’t know what happened, but my guy has a free grill on his porch. 🤷🏻♂️
