AITA for making a joke about my brother’s looks to his blind gf ? My brother, who is 27 years old, and I, who is 22 years old, have been dating this girl for a considerable amount of time. My brother is not someone you would consider conventionally handsome, and he wasn’t as fortunate in the gene pools as I was. Although he’s a decent person, he just lacks luck when it comes to dating women. His fiancée, who happens to be blind, is the most attractive woman my brother has managed to court. Yesterday, they held a family get-together to officially announce her pregnancy. Despite not having planned the pregnancy, they intend to keep the child.
I joked that most women wouldn’t even look at my brother, so he’s equally lucky to have found someone like her. My brother’s girlfriend began to talk about how lucky she is to have found a man like my brother, since most men she’d met were only interested in having sex with her and didn’t want to be tied down to a blind person. I expected my joke to make everyone laugh, but all it did was make the situation awkward and make my brother seem ashamed.
After a while, the party came to an end, and my parents came over to me to apologize for spoiling his happy moment by making comments about my brother that I felt were inappropriate, especially considering how much he battled body insecurity. My brother typically laughed off jokes I made about his appearance, so I don’t understand how my joke could have destroyed his occasion. However, my parents have insisted that I apologize to my brother for what I said at the party.

The brother is also almost in his freakin’ thirties. By now those type of jokes should have stopped cause its not funny or amusing anymore. You got to grow up at some point.

YTA. Both his looks and her blindness are not your issue to suffer; therefore they are not your issue to make fun of.
You say that he had laughed these jokes off before. I’d suggest that this is the moment when you should realise that he never actually found them funny.
YTA. No, your parents are not overreacting. You made a mean comment about your brother and you know it. Apparently he made up for his lack of luck in the looks department with an awesome personality. Maybe you should take notes.
YTA you humiliated him and called him ugly during one of the most special moments of his life. Also, just fyi, your brother “laughs off” your jokes because he doesn’t want to show how much it hurts and be the person that creates a scene. I GUARANTEE you he doesn’t find it funny and neither does anyone else.
