AITA for Labeling My Grandparents Behavior as Creepy and Disgusting? In this family drama, a person faced a dilemma when their grandparents made unsettling demands of their stepmother, Jean. The grandparents suggested that Jean should don their late mother’s jewelry and give a speech implying she was taking over their mother’s role. Solidly NTA. 30 years and they’re still going on about this? Gross.
NTA. Wow, after 30 years you would figure they would have accepted how things are. They need to get over it. It sounds like Jean and your dad handled the blending of families beautifully.
NTA, you’re right, that was creepy and disgusting and it’s also bizarre that they’re still saying it decades later. Doing what they wanted likely would have caused her to be “that woman my dad married” rather than a person you clearly like, who respected the children she was taking on enough to find her own place in their lives.

NTA- You are right and very mature. They seem to be trying to replace your mom to comfort themselves. When we lose someone, we want to fill that hole so desperately and do these sort of things. I think they couldn’t deal with the loss properly and couldn’t grieve in a healthy way. They just somehow want to fill that hole your mom’s death caused in their and your family’s hearts and lives.
NTA Your stepmother did everything like you wish for. She didn’t try to replace your mother, instead created her own role in the family. That doesn’t mean that she hasn’t a similar role but she wasn’t this person, nobody can replace your late mother. If your grandparents die, you also can’t pick an older couple, give them some of the stuff from them and let them take over the role… or maybe offer it to them and see how they like it. For them everybody seems to be replaceable after death.
